About

Joachim Lyche was born just outside of Oslo, Norway and now resides in the city of Oslo. He works as a musician, arranger, teacher and composer, and is involved in many different projects. Including his own trio that he formed in 2024. Some highlights include a performance at the Mood Indigo festival in Mumbai, India, a winter-tour with the vocalist Ella Rørstad and a European tour with the band SULT.

As an arranger he has written for large ensembles such as brass- and big band, and smaller ensembles such as string-quartets and brass-quartets. He has also been arranging music for theater and is currently working as the musical curator at Taste on Nesodden.

Having played in many different rock-bands growing up, Joachim has participated on many different kinds of records ranging from classic rock n’ roll to punk-rock. During the spring of 2025 he will be releasing the debut album of the jazz-rock band SULT that highlights Joachim as  both an instrumentalist and composer.

Joachim completed his masters in musicology at the university of Oslo in 2022. His masters project was to compare Norwegian/Scandinavian jazz to American Jazz. During this project he developed a deep understanding for the nuances that differentiate the music from the different continents. This understanding informs both his composing, practise and teaching.
